Early in 2021, I was tasting through all the barrels in the cellar here at Ramos Torres and I was really surprised at how good the 2019 Mourvedre was tasting; so much so, that we decided to bottle it as one of our featured varietal wines. This wine was fermented with the native yeast present on the grape skins from Love Ranch and was bottled unfiltered. It aged in the barrel for about 16 months-- this accentuates the maturity nicely on the nose. Dried cherry and strawberry aromas are very pronounced, while a good deal of oak spice and leather help reign in the fruity aromas and balance it overall. There’s a liveliness on the palate from the natural acidity of the fruit and I would consider the tannin structure to be medium bodied and silky from being in barrel for as long as it was. Great to drink just by itself with some friends or it could easily compliment smoked meats or roasted duck.
